"In rivers, the water that you touch is the last of what has passed and the first of that which comes; so with present time."
Leonardo da Vinci

hand.gif (81981 bytes)If you think Leonardo da Vinci's most important work was primarily as a scientist, your final project will be a multimedia presentation that includes words, images and music supporting your view.  You will show his work as a scientist, looking for examples of his work in the fields of:

  • anatomy
  • optics
  • botany
  • biology
  • hydraulics
  • physiognomy
  • physics
  • mathematics
  • robotics
  • astronomy
  • geology
  • palentology
  • chemistry
  • cartography
  • neuroscience

If you have a particular interest in one of these scientific disciplines, feel free to explore it more in depth.  Keep in mind the following questions as you do your research and collect your images:

1.  What is the definition of the scientific method?
2.  What new scientific discoveries did Leonardo make?
3.  What kinds of scientific apparatus and lab equipment were availabe to Leonardo da Vinci?  How did that influence his work?
4.  How did Leonardo's discoveries influence the thinking of his time?  What was the Renaissance?
5.  Who sponsored Leonardo da Vinci's experiments, and what did they hope to gain from his knowledge?
6.  Are Leonardo's discoveries still useful today?  What have you learned from Leonardo da Vinci that could help you with scientific discoveries of your own?
